A day in Hunddalen
Katterat train station, where the rails end and the skin track start
Right, so the idea is simple. Take the train almost until you run out of tracks, get off and skin for a few hours until you reach the Hunddalen hut. Skin up a mountain, ride down, eat and repeat. This is just such a story, from last weekend together with Mattias, Aron, Erik and Jonathan. Unfortunately, Erik and Jonathan had to leave after only one day, but what a day it was!
The weather kept improving as we drew close to Hunddalen
Mattias just before hitting that late afternoon line
Early evening and a nice lap under the belt, happy hut-camper
Clear instructions, even if you don't speak norwegian. No hands pissing mandatory
After the lap we had dinner and chatted a bit before going to bed, all excited about the next day, which was the only day that actually had a good weather forecast.
We woke up to a sunny morning, and after breakfast we set out for our main objective, Storfjell.
Parts of the crew during the fairly long approach. We are heading for the end of the valley
Järnkammen (the iron ridge) right above Arons head, our objective Storfjell to the right
Aron, Erik, Mattias and Jonathan skinning on the glacier
The Rombak fjord seen over Erik's shoulder
Storfjell conquered, Aron and Mattias celebrate
Good opportunity to make big turns (or just straightline) on the way down the glacier
How about an afternoon climb? Aron stands on yet another summit
Mattias looking back at where I took the last picture from
Aron laying down some nice big tele turns
Another one, just because it was so nice
Mattias carving the harder snow up high before reaching the big field
Long day, two fairly long climbs, amazing scenery and of course great company. Thanks you guys for a great day, more to come soon.
